Maasai Mara National Reserve is a popular bird-watching destination. However, the reserve has more than 500 recorded bird species and is particularly rich in raptors, with 47 bird species. Birds can be easily spotted in the Maasai Mara’s natural habitats,
including savannahs and riverbanks, these are just some of the stunning areas where you will get a chance to birdwatch while visiting Masai mara.
The reserve is home to the largest bird species, the ostrich. It also serves as a resting place for migratory birds that travel here between November and February. Different aquatic bird species, including kingfishers, grebes, cormorants, and pelicans, occupy the Mara River the entire year, making it a popular safari attraction for birding.

Maasai culture
You will visit Authentic Maasai Villages to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life and see their colorful culture as you get to interact with the locals. As you arrive at the village, excited children and adults welcome you with song and dance, at certain times, one of the dancers will jump up and down gracefully. The jumps are several feet high! You will then be welcomed into the homesteads in the village, the village huts (called Manyatta) are made of cow dung and clay plastered over stick frames. Your host to the Masai village will give you an insight into Maasai life, some of them may not speak English but our guides will interpret for you and the elders so that stories may be exchanged. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history and lifestyle of the Maasai community.
